Yes 100 percent. What is the legitimate argument otherwise? Let governments do whatever they want secretly and illegally, and anyone who speaks out is punished?

Whistleblowers play an extremely crucial role in the system in uncovering corruption, abuse of power, fraud, and many other forms of corruption that might otherwise be hidden. Protecting whistleblowers ensures the public can hold institutions accountable. Secondly, without legal protection whistleblowers often face serious consequences including job loss, harassment, or even legal action. Protection laws are extremely necessary for these individuals because they are doing nothing but good for the people and these laws could help prevent retaliation and encourage others to speak their mind and come forward.  Less

Yes there should be, a whistleblower is already doing an incredibly dangerous thing, so there should be something to protect them from dangers whenever information surfaces that they exposed.
