A global coalition would allow nations to work together to address a problem that crosses borders. Through shared data and technology, a coalition could be more effective at identifying and removing extremist content and prevent anything from happening in the future. This would be hard to implement though because of the different views and political systems that every nations has. There’s also the question of maintaining transparency.  Less

First, creating such a coalition would require universal standards for what counts as extremism. Without these clear and fair guidelines, national leaders could easily exploit the coalition to suppress political opposition or silence criticism under the pretext of fighting extremism. Second, merely suppressing online extremism does not solve the underlying social issues that cause it. Removing extremist content might make the problem less visible, but it does not make it disappear—it simply drives it underground, where it can resurface in more dangerous forms. Therefore, instead of relying on global censorship, societies should confront and address the roots of extremism directly, even if doing so is uncomfortable.  Less

Some current entities and initiatives exist, usually involving partnerships between civil society groups, technological companies, and the government. Such a coalition would have to be extremely technical and target all extremist groups and issues that persist worldwide. Since many states experience terrorism or extremism in different capacities, it could be difficult to form a single global coalition. I believe that separate entities in each state could hone in on the issue better and provide counter-extremist tactics toward each issue.  Less

A global coalition like this,… moreMaybe. While international cooperation and global, online safety could be strengthened from a global coalition, there a several drawbacks that need to be considered. A global coalition like this, personally, raises valid concerns about censorship, as countries have differing free speech laws that make it difficult to agree on a shared threshold for acceptable speech. Additionally, countries may not agree on what defines online extremism, which could lead to misuse or bias. So, while the premise behind such a coalition is positive, it would require clear ethical standards, oversight, and transparency to ensure fairness and protect individual rights.  Less
