In stores today, there are a lot of products masquerading as “eco-friendly”, but in truth, they are just as harmful as the next product. A certification system would force companies to follow certain guidelines, publicize their use of fuel, water, chemicals, etc. The downside to this is fear-mongering, which is an issue that we face today. Not all chemicals are bad for us or for the environment, so it is important to provide consumers with the necessary knowledge so that they can purchase what is right for them and the environment. Another issue that could arise is that companies that are currently harming the environment will lose business; the upside to them losing business is that they would either have to close down or adapt their products to be less harmful to the environment.
