However, the problem is that access to space resources is currently limited to a small number of technologically advanced countries, such as the United States, China, and Russia. As a result, these countries could shape a global consensus in ways that preemptively secure their own advantages, which could constrain future countries that later achieve scientific and technological progress and seek to engage in outer space development. Currently, space resource extraction remains limited (and largely experimental at times) due to the lack of tools and technology that have been developed to address this so far. However, as activities expand and potentially become more commercially viable as technology grows, international guidlines should be revisited and put in place if necessary in the future. Read Less
