Governments should guarantee free public access to the internet, but within certain capacities like free internet at schools, libraries, and in restaurants or cafes. Government led internet access in nondemocratic countries is problematic, but even in democratic countries, it is a cost that takes from government spending, but also takes away competition from the market.  Less

When people have access to the internet, they multiply the amount of educational resources they have by a virtually limitless amount.... moreI think the government should be mandated to provide internet. When people have access to the internet, they multiply the amount of educational resources they have by a virtually limitless amount. They have access to university lectures, textbooks, courses, etc. They also have access to communication with those outside their country, promoting cultural exchange and challenging preconceived notions about the universe. If you believe that quality education is a human right, you should support internet access.  Less

Internet access is beyond necessary to survive (and most certainly to thrive) in most countries in this modern age. Those without stable internet access are typically already disadvantaged populations. Refusing to make any advances in addressing this issue is furthering an inequitable divide that not only is unethical in and of itself— it’s going to cause problems socially and economically further down the line. It’s foolish to not make internet access a priority.  Less
