Speaking from experience, whenever I walk around, I find there aren't as many places on the sidewalk to dispose of recyclable material than waste. And that's not including the amount of times I find old dirty plastic bottles just laying around. To me, since plastic is a notoriously high cause of pollution in the earth, with the added tragedy that it's notoriously non-biodegradable, it makes sense to me to have areas where you could throw away plastic bottles so they can be easily recycled. Yes I think creating infrastructure and programs that promote sustainability and make it easier for people to recycle would be beneficial and effective.
Anyone curious about plastic waste should check out videos of those "trash islands" created from accumulated plastic waste etc. Reducing the global use of plastic is an urgent environmental issue.
