However, the lesser decision-making capacity in tense situations, the potential for technological error, and the questions of cybersecurity and liability in case of accident make it questionable whether AVs should be on public roads where other vehicles, some or most driven by people, might encounter them. If the roads were mainly traversed by AVs, then a lack of human oversight in any particular vehicle would be more feasible, but if there are people in the other cars, then there should probably be a person in the AV too until the situation changes and/or the technology has undergone extensive practical-world experience. Read Less

There have been several incidents involving autonomous cars, including a notable one I recall a few years back where a pedestrian was killed. Autonomous driving is very clearly still in its infancy, and is not safe for the moment. Read Less

However, as technology continues to progress, the reliability and safety of the vehicles is bound to improve. I feel like there should be somewhat of a gradual transition to fully autonomous vehicles on public roads. Read Less

Technology can bug, and these cars have. It’s not safe to fully rely on a machine.

While my opinion could change in the future, based on what I know now, I believe they would be dangerous. They could increase the risk of cyber attacks and pose a threat to non-autonomous drivers on the road. Read Less

Safety aside I think we have seen with the Waymo traffic jams that AVs by themselves make driving life more difficult without a human to check what they are doing.

I believe that this technology has not been around for long enough, meaning that there could be a lot of issues with the vehicle. Resulting in accidents, traffic jams, and many other possibilities which can be alarming for safety reasons. Although, as the technology grows and there are many trials on these vehicles, in the future it is a possibility. Read Less
