However, within the 20 years between 2000 and 2022, room and board costs increased by about 39%, while tuition rose by 60%. Meanwhile, many schools are now requiring underclassmen to live on campus.
    If higher education is becoming increasingly necessary to earn at least $40,000 a year, while minimum wage and the cost of living have drastically risen, the government needs to do more to subsidize these costs. Otherwise, Americans are forced to take on large amounts of debt just to survive.
