These jobs are some of the most in-demand. This type of education will result in a more innovative and forward-thinking workforce. To remain competitive against other countries, we need to ensure that companies are able to fill some of the most important jobs, which tend to be STEM related. Less
Without a doubt, there should be a balanced focus on both. While many tend to weigh STEM higher than humanities and arts, they are both equally essential for society.

Students should be given the chance to explore both without thinking that one option is more valid that the other. By promoting both, students are better able to find their own path. To some students, STEM, art or literary workshops/activities are a way to escape reality for a bit, as they find a positive outlet for whatever they are going through. This is specially important for schools in vulnerable areas. There are many projects and organizations whose focus is to promote either one or the other, but often times they are under-funded, sadly 😢. Less

Of course, STEM is extremely useful, but the arts and humanities offer unique critical thinking and analysis capabilities that may not otherwise be fostered. There are so many different perspectives needed for a society to function smoothly and efficiently, so one form of education should not be prioritized over another. I have already witnessed such a large emphasis on STEM majors/careers (in large part because I attended an engineering school) that minimizes the importance of skillsets learned in the liberal arts. Limited productivity will come from such a mindset, and individuals need to be enabled follow their passions and apply their distinctly learned skills to whichever job they choose. This, in turn, creates a well-balances community. Less
