A News is the English-language arm of Turkuvaz Media Group, launched to carry the group's broadcast news to an international audience alongside the Turkish channel A Haber, which began in 2011. Turkuvaz is Türkiye's largest media company and sits under Kalyon Group, a construction and energy conglomerate closely associated with the governing AK Party; the group's chief executive is Serhat Albayrak, brother of the former Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, who is President Erdoğan's son-in-law. The same house publishes Sabah, Daily Sabah, Takvim, Fotomaç and ATV, all of which sit in what Turkish media analysts call the pool, meaning pro-government outlets, as distinct from the opposition press. A News operates as a satellite television channel with published frequency listings, a live stream, and a website carrying wire copy, video packages and photo galleries. It maintains standing sections for Anti-terror fight and Islamophobia. Today, A News is mainly focused on English-language coverage of Turkish politics and diplomacy, the wars in Gaza, Lebanon and Ukraine, Islamophobia in Europe, Turkish defence industry developments, sport and lifestyle, from their base in Istanbul, Türkiye. One interesting fact: nearly all of its written output is Anadolu Agency copy, the state news agency, so a state-subsidised agency supplies the text for a channel owned by a conglomerate whose chairman's family married into the presidency.
