Founded in 2007 by Daniel C. Weber, a retired insurance agency owner who ran Hometown Insurance in Bohemia, New York for over 30 years, the Association of Mature American Citizens came into being after Weber felt that existing major organizations for Americans over 50, particularly AARP, were too liberal and did not represent conservative values. Weber, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served as a fighter pilot during the Vietnam conflict, funded the early organization largely from personal resources and built it around the conservative values of faith, family, and freedom. Following his passing, his daughter Rebecca Weber assumed the role of CEO in 2020 and continues to lead the organization, which now claims over 2.1 million members. Today, AMAC is mainly focused on conservative senior advocacy, Social Security reform, healthcare policy, government spending, immigration, and national security issues affecting Americans aged 50 and over from their base in Bohemia, New York. One interesting fact: AMAC explicitly markets itself as the conservative alternative to AARP and describes itself as the fastest-growing conservative organization in America, a positioning that has driven its membership from zero to over 2.1 million in under two decades by tapping into a segment of older Americans who felt unrepresented by the senior advocacy landscape.
