The Borneo Post was founded on 24 April 1978 and grew into the largest English-language daily on the island of Borneo, circulating across Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan and Brunei, with a daily circulation around 66,000 and a Sunday edition above 70,000 as of the last audited figures. It is published by Borneo Post Sdn Bhd under KTS Media, part of the KTS Group, a Sarawak conglomerate founded by the late Datuk Seri Lau Hui Kang and now run by his sons Datuk Henry Lau Lee Kong, Stephen Lau Lee Kiong and Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming. The group's core business is timber and plantations, alongside prawn farming, shipbuilding, food manufacturing and glass sand. Its media arm also publishes the Chinese-language See Hua Daily News, the Malay-language Utusan Borneo, Oriental Daily News and The Busy Weekly. Today, The Borneo Post is mainly focused on Sarawak and Sabah state news, Malaysian national politics, business and the regional economy, crime and community affairs, sport and international news, published daily in print and online, from their base in Kuching, Malaysia. One interesting fact: Its owners have been in a business rivalry with another Foochow family from the same town for generations. The Laus of KTS and the Tiongs of Rimbunan Hijau both come from Sibu, both built timber empires, and both own newspaper groups, with the rivalry said to have intensified when KTS launched a Chinese daily into the Tiongs' peninsular market in 2002.
