Founded in 1962 as the Connecticut Educational Television Corporation, Connecticut Public came into being when a group of motivated individuals, supported by institutions including Trinity College and the State of Connecticut, sought to enrich lives through high quality, non-commercial educational programming, beginning broadcast from the basement of Trinity College's library in Hartford. Connecticut Public Radio joined the organization in 1978, forming what is today known as Connecticut Public Broadcasting Inc. Today, Connecticut Public operates as a 501c3 nonprofit with a twenty million dollar annual budget, led by President and CEO Mark G. Contreras, headquartered in Hartford with additional studios in New Haven and Fairfield.
Today, Connecticut Public is mainly focused on Connecticut state news, public affairs, NPR and PBS programming, local talk shows, and community focused journalism from their headquarters in Hartford, Connecticut.
