Founded in November 2009 by Jessica Cheam, a former Straits Times journalist, Eco-Business came into being after Cheam noticed during her energy reporting that climate change and sustainability issues received limited coverage in mainstream Singaporean media, prompting her to launch the platform just before the landmark UNFCCC COP15 summit in Copenhagen. Cheam built the site with seed funding from the British High Commission and the Singapore Environment Council, along with a personal loan from her mother, and it became Asia's first dedicated sustainability news desk. Today, Eco-Business operates as Eco-Business Pte Ltd, headquartered in Singapore with additional offices in Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Beijing, and London, with Cheam continuing to serve as Founder and Managing Director.
Today, Eco-Business is mainly focused on climate policy, ESG and sustainable finance, energy transition, and corporate sustainability across the Asia Pacific region from their headquarters in Singapore.
One interesting fact: The platform's name is not simply a combination of "eco" and "business" as most assume, but derives from the Greek roots of "ecology" and "oikos," meaning household, reflecting Cheam's deeper intent behind the brand.
Eco-Business is ranked N/A among other media sources and has an average of 122,200 monthly visits according to
