Georgia Today launched in 2000 as an English-language weekly for Tbilisi's international community and has run continuously since, describing itself as the country's leading independent English-language newspaper. In November 2015 it rebranded with design input from an award-winning newspaper designer and split into two editions: a Friday paper covering politics, society and culture, and a Tuesday GT Business edition for business, economics and law. At the end of December 2015 it absorbed Georgian Journal, the country's first fully English-language paper, and in February 2016 added a monthly Georgia Today Education aimed at students. It is published by Georgia Today Group under general manager George Sharashidze with Katie Ruth Davies as editor-in-chief and website editor, and it carries a mixed local and international staff. Print issues continue to be published and posted online, with numbering past 1,550 by mid-2026, alongside a video interview series with politicians, ambassadors and business figures. Today, Georgia Today is mainly focused on Georgian politics and the courts, business and the economy, the war in Ukraine and its regional consequences, culture and society, and English-language coverage aimed at expatriates and international readers, from their base in Tbilisi, Georgia. One interesting fact: it runs a section still branded Where.ge, the name of a separate city listings guide it absorbed, so the navigation preserves the mastheads of publications it has taken over rather than folding them away.
