Storyboard began in May 2001 as a television programme on CNBC-TV18, built to chronicle the business of brands at a moment when Indian advertising was expanding quickly, and it ran in that form for two decades, becoming a fixture for the industry it covered. In November 2021 its owners relaunched it as Storyboard18, a multi-platform brand spanning digital, television and events, with the stated ambition of moving from reporting on brands to being one. It sits inside the Network18 Group, which is controlled by Reliance Industries through the Independent Media Trust, alongside CNBC-TV18, Forbes India, Moneycontrol, Firstpost and the News18 channels. The television presence continues through two shows, Media Dialogues With Storyboard18 and a weekend programme. Alongside publishing, it operates a substantial events and awards business aimed at the same industry it reports on, including the YoungGun Awards, The Visionaries, Share The Spotlight and the Brand Blitz Quiz. Today, Storyboard18 is mainly focused on advertising agencies and account moves, brand campaigns and marketing strategy, media and streaming business, chief marketing officer interviews, and startups, policy and technology, from their base in India. One interesting fact: it describes itself in its own words as a platform where a mention matters more than the rest, which is unusually frank language for a publication about its own influence over the businesses it covers.
Storyboard18 is ranked 1 among other media sources and has an average of 3,300,000 monthly visits according to
