TokenPost was founded in February 2017 by Sonny Kwon in Seoul, launching as South Korea's first news outlet devoted entirely to blockchain, at a moment when Korean retail interest in cryptocurrency was accelerating faster than anywhere else in the world. It has stayed close to the technology it covers. In March 2018 it issued its own cryptocurrency, called NEWS, and from August 2019 it began notarising its articles on a blockchain, publishing story records on-chain as a check against alteration. The English edition, TokenPost International, launched in 2019 to carry Korean market coverage to a global audience, and the operation now publishes in Korean, English, Turkish, Thai, Vietnamese and Traditional Chinese. It remains unfunded and small, around a dozen staff, though it has expanded by acquisition, buying the rival Korean outlet CoinReaders, and through content partnerships with the US research firm Messari and with Crypto.com. The publishing entity is registered in Singapore as TokenPost Pte. Ltd. Today, TokenPost is mainly focused on Bitcoin and altcoin price movements, exchange and treasury company news, crypto regulation in the US and Korea, blockchain protocol development, and market data, from their base in Seoul, South Korea. One interesting fact: it contacted 637 Korean-listed crypto projects while posing as retail investors, found that 66 percent never replied, and published the results as a free live database with an embeddable widget.
TokenPost is ranked 16 among other media sources and has an average of 12,200 monthly visits according to
