Founded in 2008 by Tom Davis, the Williamsburg Yorktown Daily (WYDaily) came into being to bring the first all-digital daily newspaper to the Historic Triangle region of Virginia. The idea sparked when Davis, who already owned a popular local radio station called 92.3 The Tide, realized that the community needed a way to get news faster than the traditional printed papers could deliver. He aimed to create a free online platform that would complement the radio broadcasts with in-depth local reporting. Today, the publication is owned and operated by Local Voice Media. Today, WYDaily is run by a team of community journalists and is mainly focused on local government, crime reports, business openings, history, and community events. They are based in Williamsburg, Virginia, and serve as the primary daily news source for residents of Williamsburg, James City County, and York County. One interesting fact: A unique fact about WYDaily is its origin story as a "companion" to a radio station. Unlike most newspapers that started in print and then moved online, WYDaily was born directly out of 92.3 The Tide. To this day, the newsroom and the radio station share resources, meaning the reporters writing the articles are often the same people you hear delivering the news updates on your car radio.
