Founded in 1954 by the M & M Broadcasting Company, WLUK came into being to bring television service to the northern communities of Wisconsin and Michigan. The idea sparked when the founders, who already operated a radio station, saw the opportunity to expand into the new world of TV. Originally, the station was located in Marinette, Wisconsin, and broadcasted under the name WMBV-TV before moving its operations to reach a larger audience. Today, the station is owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, one of the largest media companies in the United States. Today, WLUK (known on-air as FOX 11) is run by a local news team and is mainly focused on local news, weather, and sports. They are based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and are famous for their extensive coverage of the Green Bay Packers, serving as the "Official Station" for the NFL team’s preseason games and coach's shows. One interesting fact: A unique fact about WLUK is that for the first decade of its existence, it wasn't a Green Bay station at all. It was originally founded in Marinette, Wisconsin, about 50 miles north. It wasn't until the 1960s that the station moved its main studios to Green Bay to better compete with other channels in the larger city.
