The article itself walks this claim back, referring to James as “one of” or a particularly “vocal” activist. Other news sources also seem to refer to James simply as a “member.” Additionally, it is my understanding that the Columbia University encampment includes a variety of participating student organizations, not just the CUAD. Though James did appear to make these statements, attributing the entirety of the encampment to their leadership seems misinformed and further inflames an already highly controversial issue.
