People would not go into bankruptcy from medical bills or pay thousands for an ambulance ride. In practice, however, these results may not be as significant as expected. Especially in a country like the US where a lot of money does not make it to the end consumer, there is a risk of this just wasting tax dollars and not being effective. Read Less

It would help improve accessibility, combat cost, and potentially create more equity in healthcare. Creating such a system would likely not solve underlying issues, as quality of service would still largely rely on the type of coverage one has. Quality of care might degrade significantly if healthcare workers are attempting to balance the needs of an entire population without other types of reform first being implemented. There are also economic considerations of how the extra charges would be covered by governments and/or their citizens. Read Less
