Yes, especially politicians, If they have nothing to hide, I see no reason why they would mind doing so.

Yes, if someone stands to profit from our engagement, we should be able to see that they are contributing fairly.

However, it would be a good move for the sake of accountability from those who ask for our trust and support. While requiring disclosure from the start might be too much, having some legal mechanism in place to require an individual public figure’s information be revealed if a compelling argument is supported by many people, or if a person passes a certain wealth threshold to the point that enforcing accountability is only prudent, might be a potential way to address the inherent problems here. Read Less

However, I do think politicians should be strongly encouraged to do so, and if they choose not to, it should absolutely raise a red flag for voters. Read Less

However, I feel like public figures shouldn’t necessarily be forced to do this. Traditionally for politicians and presidents, disclosing private tax information is voluntary. I agree with another individual on here who brought up a great point that if a candidate chooses not to disclose this information, it raises a red flag for the voters. Read Less

If they have nothing to hide, then what’s the issue? The public is the one fundamentally changing the candidate’s life by granting them executive power. While our lives may not change as drastically, we are the sovereign people. In exchange for entrusting them with such authority, it is only fair that we have full visibility into their financial dealings. Read Less

Given the importance of transparency of representative politicians, I believe tax disclosures would be a good idea. Of course, I think sensitive information about a public figure’s loved ones should be kept private as well, even if the public figure themselves discloses their tax returns. Read Less
