    Prices need to be cheap enough for the population to choose public transport over their own vehicles, while collecting enough money to maintain the service.

We rely on automobiles to get us around. This is vastly different from Europe where public subways and high-speed rail are widespread. I believe that our nation needs to significantly increase investments in public transportation to effectively and quickly lower our carbon emissions. This is one of the easiest ways to lower our carbon footprints. Read Less

This solves a host of other issues aside from carbon emissions. Public transportation is not only a better alternative for the environment, but it provides easier access to many essential institutions for the average citizen. A complex (and safe) public transportation system would create a more user-friendly infrastructure plan uncrowded by roads and traffic. It could also significantly reduce cases of drunk-driving and would be a viable alternative for those who cannot afford vehicles. Read Less
