More importantly, the government must be on the lookout for any activities from these companies that harms citizens, like privacy breaches, unfair wages, irregular data collection, etc. However governments should not have the power to interfere with stuff like research and development, budgets, products, etc. because they are after all private companies. I think that regulations are necessary but I feel like too much government involvement may actually create corruption throughout the tech world.
