Especially ones engaging in military research, we must maintain a competitive advantage over our geopolitical adversaries especially China and Russia. They already engage in IP theft from American corporations, we cannot risk them figuring out advanced technologies ahead of us. I think in terms of safety and defense, research about a nation’s military and even some scientific research might have negative consequences if publicized. One might use it for destructive intentions.

On the one hand, it would have people following along with the process and understanding how scientists are coming to these conclusions. On the other hand, there is also the problem of how these studies are conducted and it could give out information to people who may use it against the country.
