Markey was born in Massachusetts where he attended Boston College for his B.A. as well as his J.D. He served in the US Army Reserves from 1968-1973 and was shortly after elected a member of the United States House of Representatives where he remained until 1976. He was then elected a member of the United States House of Representatives from Massachusetts where he remained incumbent until 2013. During his time as a representative, he served as chair of the House Energy Independence Committee. As of August 2020, he serves as a United States Senator from Massachusetts. He has been incumbent since 2013. Ed Markey.
